The Wallpaper lady

One of my favorite magazines over the past few years has been BBC Gardens Illustrated. I buy it occasionally to fulfill my botanical dreams… and because of the gorgeous photographs and features. In November issue I found this inspiring story about Marthe Armitage, an older lady who’s been making wallpaper over 40 years. Amazing! She cuts all her lino blocks by hand, and does the printing by herself with a century-old offset lithographic printing press.
I’d really love to have her handmade wallpaper in our new home…but I guess that’s a dream as well. Maybe I need to figure out how to make wallpaper myself. You see, that’s how it all started for her as well.

    Onpas inspiroivaa todella. Tehdä nyt jotain tuollaista elämäntyökseen. Olisikohan se yhtä ihanaa kuin miltä kuulostaa? Musta tuntuu aina, että rahatyö vie liikaa aikaa kaikilta halutöiltä, mutta ehkä ne voisi vähän tyydyttävämmin yhdistää. Ehkä hän osasi. Himoitsen tuota lehteä.

    Stunningly beautiful, I love this wallpaper. The links were inspiring. Andrew Montgomery’s photography is very atmospheric. I have to see if I can find the BBC Gardens Illustrated Magazine. Thank you for this interesting post!

    Ihania tapetteja! Siniset tammenlehvät ovat suosikkini.

    Hauskaa kuulla, että jollain toisellakin on puutarhahaaveita… ne tulevat minulla heti oma koti -haaveiden jälkeen, ja yltyvät keväällä melkoisesti. Oma parveke olisi hyvä lohtu, mutta toistaiseksi minulla ei ole ollut edes sellaista.
