Find yourself a warm, peaceful corner, light up the candles and just breathe (and knit) for a moment, will you?

Taika

Hi,
Isn’t she gorgeous? She’s been with us for the past two months. I’m so happy to have her around. Seiskarinkoira is an old finnish breed. I couldn’t find any information about it written in English on the web. Traditionally these dogs lived among people in small communities in the archipelago and helped hunting seals in the early years of 1900 century. This breed is considered to be quite healthy, because there are no strict requirements in appearances. That’s one of the main reasons why we ended up taking seiskarinkoira.

P.S. She loves, loves, loves Kallahti too

My summer holiday is over, but I pretend it’s still going on each day after work. Going to Kallahti beach has almost become a daily ritual. I can see myself walking there until fall comes…and when it comes, I’ll be walking there and remembering all the good, bad, wonderful and sad things we’ve been through this summer.

Things that happened during last week:
I made a silk blouse. I was a afraid of sewing such a delicate fabric but it all went great with french seams and everything. I worked three nights with the construction.
Too bad the shirt won’t fit and I’m too tired of making it again or correcting the fit.
Then I went for the simplest of things, white t-shirt and purchased myself three of these.
So don’t feel sorry for me! I think I’m more like a t-shirt than a silk blouse type of girl anyway.

We’re renovating our bedroom. I haven’t planned it much, just following my instinct. Let’s see. I might share some before pictures soon. And hopefully we’ll get to the after pictures some day.

Lilacs blooming, rhubarb pie from the oven, new sandals. There’s no better way for me to start summer.

A new Finnish book about baking which I enjoy. It’s somehow a very realistic book. Makes me want to actually bake the goods, not just dream of them. Sort of baking that belongs to my home.

Vintage vogue pattern 5028. I’m searching the right fabric for it. Voile, lawn… if you’ve got ideas please feel free to share them.

Sometimes it’s good to be so tired that all the desires and wants and to do’s almost disappear. Now it’s just enough for me to sit down and listen to my quiet thoughts. (I wanted an ice cream earlier today though).
Hope you’re having a moment of bliss this weekend.

There was this middle aged lady who entered the subway this morning. I saw her holding a four-leave clover in her hand and put it in between her calendar pages. She was most probably on her way to work, and still she had the time to notice little details like that.

I’m growing things. Green things. But I made a big mistake with my salads. I planted a whole bag of seeds in one quite short box. So its like growing sprouts instead of salad leaves. I must cut and eat them and plant new seeds again since now my salads can’t breath. I also have quite many herbs and some flowers (geraniums and pepperwort(?). Things are fine with them.
My tiny citrus tree almost faded away, dropped all the leaves, but then there where small white flowers coming along. I’m not quite sure if Finland is the right place for growing citrus fruits.

First of all, sorry for the long silence here in the blog. Life has been quite hectic during the winter and spring. I apologize for not visiting your inspiring blogs or flickr sites. You are amazing but I guess I got a bit tired of computers and such. Now I say that I try to be back here as much as I can.

Anyway, let’s move on!

Today the japanese magazine people came over to my home and after that I remembered how good blogging can be. So here I am. And yes, I’ve missed this.

Those three first pictures are from the very special first visit to summer cottage. Flowers are a greeting from my grandfather who passed away a few years ago. He planted them earlier and every spring the flowers continue to bloom.
It’s also a ritual to clean the cottage (meaning bring everything out, even books). Building a new fireplace was also in order. It’s tempting to say we used vintage tiles.
